1) TikTok unveils new subscription series: TikTok launched a new subscription-based comedy series, Finding Jericho, that costs $5 for all eight 30-minute episodes. The show was co-produced in partnership with Pearpop, a marketplace for content creators to collaborate. TikTok's entry into the subscription market follows Instagram’s test of creator subscriptions and Twitter’s experimentation with a Super Following offering.

Titan’s Takeaway: We've witnessed the copy-cat nature of social media for years, and in a world where investors prefer cash flow today, we expect many high-growth companies to pull-forward monetization strategies.

2) Retailers work through pandemic-fueled inventory glut: The country's largest retailers have been caught off guard by a changing consumer as overstocking has led to widespread inventory issues. Walmart's inventories have risen by 33%, Gap's inventories increased by 34%, and American Eagle's jumped by 46%. Supply chain woes have led to delayed inventory shipments, another headwind for the group.

Titan’s Takeaway: The pandemic has caused supply and demand disruptions in various shapes over the last 2.5 years, but forecasting and inventory management errors can take several quarters to recover from for low-margin businesses.

3) Tesla plans layoffs: In a company-wide email circulated Friday, Elon Musk announced his intention to trim Tesla’s salaried headcount by 10%. The announcement comes just after Musk's call for employees to spend at least 40 hours a week in the office. Musk noted,"..this does not apply to anyone actually building cars, battery packs or installing solar."

Titan’s Takeaway: We're curious to see how many employees decide to look for a new job over returning to the office. Layoffs are never easy, and we wouldn't be surprised to see more companies start to push employees back to the office - you know, for collaboration.
