Collecting, using and sharing visitor information

Many of our online activities don't require visitors to our website to register for an account or give us any personal information. Titan and our business partners are still interested, however, in who visits our site and how they use it. We use cookies so we can improve your online experience. Cookies also track visitors' IP addresses, domain names and browser information. They don't collect a visitor's personal information, but they help us to:

  • Develop new services to improve our website
  • Analyze our marketing campaigns

Cookies

When you visit titan.com, we send a cookie to your computer's hard drive. Cookies are small files recorded by your Internet browser that retain information about your website visits. We use session and marketing cookies. They help us to identify your browser, and to recognize you when you move from page to page within our site. These types of cookies, and similar files that we place on your computer, do not contain any personal information unless it is encrypted.

Titan uses cookies in different ways:

Web browsing or session cookies. We may place these types of cookies on your hard drive to help with Web navigation. Session cookies also help to personalize your experience while visiting our site, to gather data about the usage of our site and to track response to an advertisement. We erase Web browsing cookies when you close your browser. They do not contain or capture customer-specific data.

Marketing cookies. Titan uses marketing cookies from our marketing partners to serve ads across the web. You can view, edit and manage your ad preferences associated with this cookie, or opt out entirely, by accessing the Network Advertising Initiative.

Site survey

Visitors can choose to use site surveys and other tools to tell us what they think about our site. We collect and use the comments that visitors provide to improve your experience on our site.

Titan has business partners who help develop or service our websites. They may track and keep visitor information.

Collecting and using your personal information

We require you to share your personal information with us for some of our online activities. These activities include accessing your policies online, applying for products or services and asking us questions. Personal information is any information that identifies you and describes your relationship with Titan. Some examples of the information that the Titan family of companies may collect includes:

  • Name, address and Social Security number
  • Assets and income
  • Property address and value
  • Account and policy information
  • Driver's license number
  • Financial information
  • Credit reports and other consumer report information
  • Information from applications and transactions
  • Any information you give Titan
  • Public information

If you apply for a product or service, we may collect information from your consumer reports, such as your credit report or motor vehicle report. We may use an "insurance score." An insurance score uses information from your credit report to help predict your future claims. Typical items that could affect an insurance score include payment history, number of revolving, new and collection accounts, bankruptcies, and foreclosures. You may request the credit report source. Please see the Questions section below for more information on this.

You may choose to correspond with Titan via email. Please be careful about the information you send to us in email. As with any public Web tool, email may not be secure so please do not include sensitive information.

We collect your personal information when you:

  • Ask a question
  • Use tools and calculators
  • Apply for products or services

  • Conduct transactions
  • Apply for a job
  • Send email to us
  • Subscribe to receive email from us

Sharing your personal information for servicing

We don't sell your information. When you buy a product, we may share your personal information with other Titan companies or our business partners to service your product. We may also share your information with your agent. They use your personal information to manage your policy or account.

We also share your information for everyday business purposes. Some examples include mailing your statements or processing transactions that you request. You cannot opt out of these. We may also share your personal information as federal and state law requires.

Sharing your personal information for marketing

We want our customers to have choices about how and when they do business with us. We may share your personal information with our affiliated companies or business partners to market products to you. We have joint marketing agreements with our business partners. This means that we have partnered with them to offer you a product that might interest you. They may use your personal information to market their products. If you would like to learn more about opting out, please read the next section.

We will not share medical information or motor vehicle reports for marketing purposes. Additionally, we may disclose information to unaffiliated third parties as allowed by law. For example, we may disclose information in response to a subpoena, to prevent fraud, or to comply with an inquiry by a government agency or federal regulator.

Opt out

You can ask us not to share your personal information with other Titan companies or our business partners to market new products to you. Just remember, we offer many different types of products and services. You may not want to opt out if you would like to learn about these products from one of our companies. Please call us at 1-800-888-8424 to opt out of this sharing. You may opt out at any time and your request will take effect in 30 days. An opt out request from one joint customer will apply to all joint customers on the policy or account. If you have already opted out, you don't need to opt out again because your request will never expire.

Vermont customers: We won't share your information with Titan companies or our business partners for marketing purposes without your consent.

Using your medical information

We may also need to collect your medical information. We may use this medical information for a product or service you're interested in, to pay a claim, or to provide a service. We may share this medical information for these business purposes if required or permitted by law. But, we won't use or share your medical information for marketing purposes, unless you give us your permission.

Confidentiality and security

We use physical and technical safeguards to protect your personal information. We limit access to your personal information to those who need it to do their jobs. The law requires our business partners to use your personal information only for our purposes. They may not share it or use it in any other way. We comply with all data security laws.

Other companies or organizations may have links to their websites on our Web pages. We are not responsible for how they collect, use, disclose or secure the information that you provide to them. Please read their privacy policies so you can learn how their website uses your information.

TRUSTe Privacy Program

Titan is part of the TRUSTe Privacy Program. TRUSTe will help you resolve your concerns with our website. Confidentiality for Victims of Domestic Violence

New York State Insurance Law 2612 prohibits insurers from discriminating against victims of domestic violence.  This law requires insurance companies to comply with valid orders of protection against an insured or anyone covered under an insured’s policy.  While the order is in place, the insurance company is prohibited from sharing the address and telephone number of the protected persons, or of any person or entity providing covered services to the protected person. If a child is the protected person, the child’s parent or guardian must assert these rights. 

Nationwide’s Obligation 
Except in instances where express consent of the requestor is given, Nationwide will not disclose to the policyholder or another insured covered under the policy the: address, telephone number or any other personally indentifying information of the covered individual or children residing with the covered individual.  Nationwide is also prohibited from disclosing any information relating to abuse including the nature of the health care services provided to the covered individual.  This information could include the: name, address, and telephone number of the provider of the health care services; or any other information that could lead to the discovery of the above information.  

Where applicable, you have the ability to further protect yourself by creating a new online account with new credentials and by placing your policy in your own name.

Questions

If you are a Titan customer, you can ask us to give you a copy of your personal information. Please send a notarized letter including your signature to Specialty Auto/Privacy, P.O. Box 33704 San Antonio, TX 78265-3704. This is for your protection. We don't charge a fee for giving you a copy of your information now, but we may charge a small fee in the future.

We can't update information that other companies provide to us. So, you'll need to contact the other company to correct your information. For example, if you want to update the information in your credit report, you'll have to contact the credit-reporting agency.
